Dr. A Miles
Robotics Doctor
Office Hours: 6-9
Dr. Anthony Miles is a Robotic Surgeon. Only his job is to take live volunteers and transform them into living robots.
“Mary how many do we have today” Doctor Miles casually asked, placing his keys in his pants pocket. “We have 43 volunteers today Sir” Mary replied keeping her eyes focused on the un-done paper work. “Better than yesterday” he muttered picking up his lab coat that hung lifelessly on the chair. He slipped his thin arms through which only meant it was time to start the day. He nodded in Mary’s directions and slipped through the lab door. Terra Longberg’s bright green eyes shot up at his presence. He smiled. He was used to the worried look and knew what was to come next. “I’m sure Mary explained the process to you” he asked already knowing the answer. She nodded. “Then you have made your decision to do this correct?” he assured. He didn’t want anyone to run away at the last minute in the middle of the surgery. “Yes” she managed to say. The color of her apple cheeks drained. The doctor picked up his utensil and a thin piece of iron and strode over to Terra. “Well let us begin”.
“Lizabeth Lopez. It is time for to go to the facilities called “school”” Lizzy recognized the cold, mechanical voice and immediately opened her eyes. She didn’t want Bessie to rant on about how lazy she was and then call her mother up. She swung her legs over the side of her bed. “Bessie” she said looking up at the mechanical face. “Yes Miss Lizabeth?” the robot replied obediently. “Please tell me the schedule for today and may I make a request for some orange juice?” she asked walking over to her closet. “Of course Miss” Bessie replied rolling around franticly on her steel wheels. “The schedule for today would be: Breakfast, school, homework, and a movie with Lily Miss” Bessie said. Lizzy nodded her head. “Bessie I asked for an orange juice may you please get it?” she asked politely putting on a pair of bermudas and a tank top. “Of course Miss” Bessie’s wheels screeched against the floor as she rolled out the room. Lizzy gave a sigh of relief.
The room had suddenly become hot and congested. The doctor wiped his falling sweat with the back of his hand and turned his attention back to Terra’s face. The lamp above seemed to shine brighter than before and the room much smaller. It was complicated trying to drill the punctures into Terra’s skull and her memory was difficult to erase. He sighed and picked up the remaining piece of iron. Placing it gently to the left of Terra’s eye, he turned on the small hand drill. Terra winced with pain. He immediately shut the drill off and stepped back to look at his work. Terra’s new iron skin glowed as she stood up. “My work is complete” the doctor stated rubbing the excess blood off of his drill. Terra showed no emotion. “You may go out the right door” he said not raising his eyes. “Thank you Sir” Terra replied in a cold mechanical voice. The doctor smiled with satisfaction.
“Did you hear me Hon?” Ms. Miles asked once again. Mr. Miles shot up from his day dream. “Of course I heard you dear” he re assured locking eyes with his wife. Ms. Miles was not satisfied. “You were not thinking about that surgery again were you?” she asked in a stern voice. Mr. Miles looked sheepishly at his untouched plate. “I told you time and time again Hon” Ms. Miles began to lecture “You do this all the time! People offer their lives to become robots and you can’t stop them.” “But her eyes, she didn’t volunteer I knew she didn’t” he murmured. “Well it’s too late now” Ms. Miles whispered gathering up the dirty plates. Mr. Miles took a deep sigh and stood up.
