Friendship Essay

My Antonia and "Once Around Manhattan" both have similar friendships. There friendships have similar characteristics. Jim and Antonia may have a little bit of a different relationship than Gina and Soo-Hyung but they have similarities. Jim and Antonia are very different people, but they are very good friends becuase they understand each other. Antonia lights up Jim's life. He likes the fact that she is so cheerful because it makes his grandmother happy and all he wants is for his family to be happy. Jim has a nickname for Antonia it is 'Tony' haveing a nickname for someone is endearing and only really good friends can get close enought to have them. He treats Antonia like a real person no matter what, even when she obeys his grandmother Jim just shrugs it off because he understand Antonia is just being herself. Also they spend time together and have intimate conversations like when Antonia and Jim go to get vegetables for supper; Antonia and Jim talk about her coming to live with Jim and his grandmother. Gina and Soo- Hyung are the only girl members of the Challenge Club. Because they are both girls and they have similar interests being in the Challenge Club together, they have become best friends. They use each other to get throught things. Like they both worked together to finish the marathon using each other strengths until the end. They respect each other and thought that they wouldn't have made it through the marathon without each other. Its a relationship that is bonded close. Some similarities between the relationships would be that, both groups do vigorous activity together. Like Gina and Soo-Hyung did the marathon together, Anotonia and Jim picked vegetables together. And it seems like both of the friends seem to go together really well as if it was matched up perfectly.

The final essay

The friendship between Jim and Antonia is very strong. They are best friends and it seem like they have known each other for a a long time. They do things together like harvest vegetables in the morning for dinner and they also care about each other. Antonia seems like she is wider, she is cheerful and very helpful and in the story it's Jim who is telling us about her. Jim is not as wild. He seems much more composed. In the story talks about how they grew up together. "Oh better I like to work out-of-doors than in a house!" she used to sing joyfully. "i not care that your grandma say it makes me like a man. I like to be a man." She would toss her head back and ask me to feel the muscles swell in her brown arm. This is one of the narrations that jim makes about her It tells us that she is cheerful and wild.

The frienship between Gina and Soo-Hyung is forever. They are also best friends and they also care for each other. They are both athletic Gina is a gymnast and Soo-Hyung is on the swim team. They are both on the challenge club. The story talks about how the two of them went on a challege club trip and they had to paddle around Manhattan island. But they didn't give up even when they bpot had gotten stuck when they went down a stream and it was going with the incoming tide. on this trip they argued but still manged to do it. It shows that their frindship is forever.

The similarities between the two frienships are there frienships are  kindred. No matter waht they are going through they will always be their for each other.

Essay For Packet

The friendships in the stories "My Antonia" and "Once Around Manhattan", are similar and different in many ways.  In the story "My Antonia", the friendship is between Jim and Antonia and in the story "Once Around Manhattan", the friendship is between Gina and Soo-Hyung.

The friendship of Jim and Antonia is more like a brother to sister type of thing, but they are not related, only in family friends type of way.  They work hard together, and they would talk about how great the farm is and how Antonia wishes that she could be there all the time.  They both work in the farm and they talk about the plants.  At at one point, they are sitting on top of a roof and looking up at the sky together, and they decide to just talk.  The both spend alot of time outdoors together, too.

In the story "Once around Manhattan", the friendship between Gina and Soo-Hyung is more of an acquittance, but they are still friends.  They are the only two girls in the class (as far as I know) and they decide to team up.  The teacher asks them if they needed help, because they are girls and "aren't strong enough", but they worked together and they were doing really well.  They both would still talk, but they were mostly talking about their family.  The were telling each other how the Statue of Liberty should be named after one another.  They were telling each other, also, how they  both gained ambitions by working together.  Gina asked Soo-Hyung "Does she have a name?  The Statue of  Liberty lady?  Because if it weren't for her" and Soo-Hyung replied "I know.  I'm going to have to call her Gina because she was my only hope back there."  they were talking about each other, and how they need each other.  But Gina told Soo-Hyung "Oh, no her name is Soo-Hyung, steering us to solid ground."  This were direct quotes from the story.

However, both stories share things like friendship in common.  Both the friends work together, well and get along, as well.  In conclusion, the friendships in both of the stories are different and similar in many ways.

Friendship Essay

In "My Antonia" and "Once Around Manhattan" has similar characters. They both have friendship characters. Also the friendships are very same, or similar.

Jim and Antonia understand each other. Antonia is more free-spirited and fun. She loves to have fun and be funny. Jim follows the rules more and does orders. For example Antonia does not wear the sun bonnet when the grandmother tells her to she lets her hair be free. Jim does what grandmother says and follows Antonia and what she says. Jim claims that Antonia acts different sometimes. She acts mean sometimes but then around grandmother she acts kind and sweet. Jim treats Antonia like a real person and not like some random person on the street.

Soo-Hyung and Gina need each other in Challenge Club. They are the only girls, even though the instructor treats them differently.  They are best friends forever, their club went a canoed around

Manhattan

. They stopped and admired the sights they saw. Soo-Hyung talked about how her family came to

America

. When they were passing Yankee stadium they found out that they like different base-ball teams Soo-Hyung likes the Mets and Gina like the Yankees. They thought they had everything in common but realized they like something different.

These two friendships from the two different stories are similar and have similar characters. All four characters have friendship issues that go up down like a roller coaster.

My Antonia and Once Around Manhattan friendship essay

There are many similared in friendship in the two stories. The two stories are My Antonia by Willa Cather and Once Around Manhattan by Greta Anderson. The friendship in My Antonia are Jim and Antonia. In the storie Once Around Manhattan the friendship is between Gina and Soo-Hyung.

The friendship of Jim and Antonia is the following. Antonia went to work for Jim’s grandmother for a few weeks. "Every morning, while the dew was still on the grass, Antonia went with me (Jim) up to the garden to get early vegetables for dinner". Also "One night.... Antonia and I climbed up on the slanting roof of the chicken-house to watch the clouds.......Grandmother came to the door and said it was late and we would get wet out there. In a minute we come, Antonia called back to her.  I like your grandmother and all things here, she signed............. Why arent you always nice like this Tony? How nice? Why, just like this; like yourself. Why do you all the time try to be like Ambrusch?.....If I live here, like you, that is different. Thing will be easy for you. But they will be hard for us."

The friend of Gina and Soo-Hyung are the following. “After a while, Gina stopper paddling just to look, and Soo-Hyung did the same”. This means that the two friends copy each other. “Look! Shouted Gina, pointing at the Yankee Stadium. I cant wait to see the Yankee play! I can Soo-Hyung replied. I am a Mets fan. How can you be a Mets Fan? Everybody loves the Yankees, Gina said with exasperation.” This mean that they do not know each other well or that they not best friends forever because Gina would of knew that Soo-Hyung is a Met fan. “… I think that is the bridge we used to play on by my grandma’s house!” .This mean that they were friend when they were little.

The similar between the two sets of friend are the following. One way they are similar is that they both talk to each other. Also because they do thing with each other. Another similar is that they have to work. I know that because in the story My Antonia they have to paddle the boats. In the book, Once Around Manhattan they have to work on the farm(picking vegetables, making dinner, etc).

These are the two friendship and the similar of the two sets of friends.

Question & From Anticipation Guide

It's true some people are afraid to show off their talent because they think nothing is special about it. Not all people think this way because they know their talent is special. When people don't show off their talent they will lose lots of opportunities. For example is you have a special talent in volleyball like hitting a really powerful serve you could get a college scholarship or be on a team. If you know you have a powerful serve and you don't show it off you will lose probably an opportunity of a life time. In the book Tangerine Pail has a real special talent with soccer and being the goalie. If he did not show off his skills in the first place he would not have a s much friends. Showing off your talent can also let you gain many new friends.

Respond to Q6 from Anticipation Guide

"Economic differences between friends cause problems;People from different economic backgrounds cannot be friends"

I disagree with that statement because I believe that Economic differences between friends doesn't cause problem;People from different economic backgrounds can be friends for many reasons. One reason is that just because people are in different economic classes doesn't mean you cant be friends. Another reason is that if someone is really nice, kind, sweet, from a different location  and poor, you wouldn't judge them just because they are poor and from a different social class. You would want to be friend with them because they have a good personally (nice, kind and sweet) and that what a friends personally should be. Another reason is that a friend should be someone you love spending time with. You shouldn't pretend to be friend just because they are rich or poor. Also you shouldn't judge a person on the clothes they wear or the stuff they own the first time you meet them because they may turn out to be a very nice person. This is why I disagree with this statement.

Economic Friend(Anticipation guide Q6)

The question asks if socioeconomically one friend is richer than the other the friendship will definitely not work out.

I totally disagree with this statement. Friendship should have nothing to do with this topic. Friends should be friends because they have the same interests and care enough about each other to forget about all their flaws and have a good time together. A friend is someone you can trust, not someone who looks at your socioeconomic status.  The definition of a friend in the dictionary is Friend, a person attached to another by feelings of affection or regard.(dictionary.com). If that person is a friend they have "Affection or regard" for you; then they care about your feelings, then they wouldn't basically want hurt or offend you by using the relationship. I think that anyone with good intentions in a friendship or relationship for that matter will not care if the other companion is rich or not. But some might take this issue seriously and look at a future "friend's" money status, and those are the people who won't end up staying with you is something was to happen to your families cash flow and they will give up and move on to leech someone else's money. I believe that anyone can be friends rich or poor. If their a true friend they would never even mention this issue.

Economic Friend Answer

I disagree that economic differences between friends cause problems, and that people from different economic backgrounds could be friends.  When you first meet friends, usually, personally I think that you wouldn’t ask immediately how much money they have.  You’re friends because you like hanging out and talking. Money has nothing to do with friendship.  If you think that it does, than really you are just using a friend, and you hurting them and yourself at the same time.  People are living things and if people had no money and you were friends with that person, I’m sure you will still be friends with them if money didn’t exist.  Money is just because someone’s parents won the lotto big or is in a huge corporation.  Let’s say you meet new friends in school, and you never really heard about their economic background or they never told you about which neighborhood they live in, and let’s say your rich and you tell them that.  Later, you two become really good friends and enjoy each others company.  Now, you find out that his family isn’t the richest family around.  Would you really care?  I know I wouldn’t, because money does not payoff a friendship.  Here’s another situation:

You grow up with a really good friend and you are friends for life.  Your friend becomes famous, so they become pretty rich.  If you still enjoy each other, even though you’re not a star and your friend is, would you two still hang out?  I know I would still hang out with them, and not for the money, because we enjoy each others company.

Now, I think I gave you some pretty good reasons and examples of why money and economics doesn’t matter in a friendship, don’t you agree?  Don’t take money for granted just to be friends with someone, and you should consider someone’s feelings, first.  You shouldn’t ask about their economics, because it really doesn’t matter.  So, in conclusion, my opinion is that you shouldn’t be friends with someone if their rich, you should be friends with someone that you enjoy, and the money doesn’t even matter.
