Break

Unfortunately, this is the last day of our break :(. Don’t you wish that break could be longer or there were more of them? Well I am pretty sure that every student in the world would like that idea. I know that you usually get to do what you want, but just think of the stuff you couldn’t do.

 

During this break, it was Passover. I dislike this holiday because I can’t eat anything that has yeast as an ingredient. I also had to go to my annoying/wealthy cousin’s house. My cousin brags about how rich he is and he also gets whatever his heart desires, other than a cell phone. His parents will not allow that. The only nice thing about going down to Maryland is, they belong to a very nice country club. At least I got to play a nice round of golf. I am a lot better golfer than my cousin so he started to complain a lot. So at the turn, (9^th to 10^{th ‘h} holes) his father almost bought him a new driver. 

 

Another thing that can make break annoying is if a teacher gives you homework. My Spanish teacher is giving us a vocabulary quiz the day after we get return. You see, I forgot about it so now I am studying at the last minute. Also the fact of returning can be discouraging. We have a lot of fun over break and then POW; everything just goes back to our normal and boring routine. Break, most enjoy it but not the aftermath. You have to go back to classes and wait for the next break. But, that’s why kids like Summer, you have two months until you have to do it again.

Letter To the Editor

    Alright, I got an assignment from my teacher to pretend to write a letter about what we think we should happen about a specific topic. So here's mine.

    For me, I think Grades higher than 3rd Grade should add the same routines as kindergarten did. Why do I think that you ask? I am a student and sometimes school bores me to death. Me and some of my friends actually fall asleep in almost all classes. But not all classes are boring. But school should be short. I do think Education is vital, But come on school for like 7 hours can get tiring and monotonous. Kindergarten was like 3 hours of fun. Snack time should also be included. In 5th grade the teachers were vigilant about food in class. Story time was cool too. The stories were always enticing. The books were always fictional. Well not really.  But for all of this to come true we need an electorate. It should be more like kindergarten  But then again this is a theoretical thought.

    Again This was just pretend.

School

School, we all eventually go. But is it essential, or counterproductive? Some of the students become smart and some get left back. Wherever you are, you bring the stress with you. I am in middle school; it is definitely one of the hardest times to be a student. From fights, to tests, to friends, middle school is a very hard time to be a kid; especially in this day and age.  

 

I personally think that some of the classes in school are not vital; for instance, I think that you should have the option to take tech or art. I strongly dislike both classes so I would rather take a foreign language or home economics. I also think that school should just be pass or fail. There is too much emphasis placed on the letter grade; this stresses me out. Shouldn’t I be more concerned about math than tech ed. Right know I have to worry about not failing tech ed when I need to be working on my academic classes; how do you think that makes me feel? Pretty bad. 

 

In certain ways, school can also be counter-productive. For instance, if you are in a fight, you might get injured and you would have to leave school. You may also receive severe punishment; from detention to expulsion. These are terrible results.  This could leave you days behind and you may be cramming for the rest of the week. Also, school brings many distractions; in some ways, home schooling could be a better choice. Your friends can be a big distractions; especially the ones that spread rumors. A rumor spread about you could trigger your animosity and you can end up doing something pretty stupid and hurtful.

 

Why school? What a good question. Ask a teacher, a friend but the truth is, nobody may ever know.

College Football Playoff System

    As of the 2008 college football season, the computer decides who will play for the national title and the other bowl games. Imagine a computer deciding your teams fate for that year of hard work. Many colleges have been ripped off and have ended up playing in a small bowl game when they should be contending for the title.

    There are a total of 34 bowl games in a season. You have be at least 6 and 6 to play in one of these games. Of the 34 games, 5 are Bowl Championship Series, B.C.S. games. This includes the National Championship game. As you can see there are five B.C.S. games, which means there are 10 teams. Six of those ten get in automatically because they have won a big conference. There are four at-large bids handed out. The six power conferences are the Big East, Big 12, Big 10, Pacific 10, South Eastern Conference, and the Atlantic Coastal Conference. Out of the ten teams, the computer ranks them and selects the top two to play for the title.

    There have been many talks about changing the system. They went to have the top 8 teams in the playoffs. They would still give six automatic bids, but now only two at-large bids. I agree with this system. I think it would be better for College Football to have playoffs. In my young mind, it would be more interesting to watch eight teams fight for the title instead of two teams having a month to get ready for it. If you are going to be a champion, you need to beat the best whenever, wherever. A true champion can do it.

    There are many other strategies or concepts to solve the problem, but this is the reasonable one. This solution is expected to facilitate the College Football system. There have been no changes made yet, but there will have be some coming in the future.

My Future Career!!!

1. Jessica Haggy meant that before we get to the "future" we have many things to do. I think that this is sort of a timeline. Where we are now what we need to do to get a job and where you want to be. She is trying to say that before you choose your career you need to know what the work is and how much effort is put into it.  

2. There are many career choices now. I am only 12 so I still have about 5 years. Right now I like skateboarding.I would also like to be a photographer. I like to be outside and be with animals and take pictures for National Geographic.

3. What it takes to be a photographer is you don't even need to go to college but if you want a good reputation you just take classes for photography. There are no degrees required you just need to have skill. If you really love photography and have a lot of money you spend up to 10,000 maybe 15,000 dollars to have good equipment. the parts of photography or positions are media and advertising, fashion, photojournalism or working as a landscape photographer. My career choice would be a landscape and maybe animal photographer.

Jessica Hagy: Career Graphic

1.) In Jessica Hagy's graphic, she uses a Venn diagram. It's labeled "Where You Are," "Where You Want to be" and "Lots and Lots of work." The graphic is talking about where you are now and what you want to be when you're older. In the middle of it, it's saying that it takes a lot of hard work to get there! That's what I think she meant.

2.) When I grow up, I might want to be a registered nurse. Since, my mom and dad are registered nurses (You could check out my power point)! One who is a head nurse and on who works with celebrities. But for personal choice, I'm not sure yet. Maybe an athlete, something in the medical field, I'm not sure yet. But, I'll know what I want to be soon.

3.) You will have to go to school. You'll have to go to vocational schools, have on-the-job training or an associate's degree. Some might need a bachelor's degree.

    Now, I'll talk about the circles. Like the first circle labeled, "Where You Are." I'm really just in school. Focusing on doing my homework and trying to keep my grades up. The usual school work. I also focus on my friends too, like an average kid does! But hopefully, I want to go to school dealing with medical things. The second circle labeled, "Where You want to be." I'm not sure where I want to be, but I'm aiming for being in the medical field and aiming for sports. I'm not positive yet. The last circle, or center, is labeled "Lots and Lots of Work." For me, it means it takes a lot of work to get to where you want to be and it does! A lot of school work and experience takes you where you want to be. That's my explanation and where I want to be for Jessica Hagy's career graphic.

My Future

   1.Jessica Hagy made a graphic that means "what are you doing about your future career from where you stand". For now, you must think your job might be easy but, once you get down to it, it might not be as easy as you thought. To get your dream career you got to do a lot of work. Four + years in college is really hard. Plus you might have to go to graduate school for a certain degree. But you know what, it could pay off.

    2.For my career I'd probably want to be a Pharmacist. Pharmacists help in drug research and other stuff. Some people do it for the money but, I would do it for the love of the job. Pharmacists are pretty cool since my friend is a pharmacist. He says it  cool job because he's helping all these people stay healthy.  But that's all I know so far.

    3. Now I'll tell you what I actually researched. Pharmacists kind of boss the doctor around telling them what drug to give them and how much of the drug to take. They also got to keep a record of the person to prevent them from taking the wrong medication. But to become a Pharmacist you have to get a Bachelors in Science and ,of course, Pharmacy. There are so many courses in becoming Pharmacist. Some might include: Anatomy, Microbiology, toxicology, etc.But trust me, a lot of stuff must get done.

   

 

When I grow up...

When I grow up, I would like to design golf courses. I have always liked to play golf, but I know that I will most likely not be good enough to make it to the P.G.A. tour. An advantage of playing golf is that I would know how to make a course challenging or easy. Golf is an passion that I would like to pursue.

 I wanted to become a golf course designer for a few months. It is a very promising career but it takes allot of work to get good at it. First of all, you have to get a bachelors degree. After you obtain this degree you are supposed to go to agronomomist school. You are supposed to do this because if you were working on a course in Hawaii, the grass will be different in a course in New York. The grass would be cut differently and watered at a different rate.  Most people think making a golf course is just to cut into some land and there’s your course; it is not that simple.

 The fairway is the most important part of your course. People will remember your design for its fairways ad if it has been trapped well. If you are playing on a hilly course you will definitely enjoy it a lot more then just playing on a straightforward course without any action. Who honestly wants to do that? I know I wouldn’t enjoy it.

When designing a golf course, there are a couple of steps to take. The end all, be all is to have a fairly big piece of land. You have to fit 18 championship holes. They would have to be trapped and long if you ever wanted to host an U.S. Open or Ryder Cup. Who wants a little crappy course in the middle of nowhere?  

The best golfers in the world make courses: Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus Ben Hogan. I may not be in the elite of golfers in the world but I would still enjoy to follow/ pursue my dream. Golf, a sport, a life style. I want to design you can play; hey maybe you’ll play on mine. You never know. 

Career Graphic

    In class, our teacher showed us a graphic about careers. It was a venn diagram. In the first circle it said "Where are you." The second one said "Where you want to be." The last one said "Lots and lots of work. The graphic was by Jessica Hagy. I think Jessica is trying to say some do not want to be where they are. In my mind she is telling me to do something I want. I want to be a professional athlete, but I need to get there first.

    I now play three sports in a league. They are football, basketball, and baseball. I am pretty good at all of them, but baseball is my best. I do not have a favorite sport, but It would be great if I made it in baseball. I have been playing baseball the longest out of the three and that's why I'm good at it. It has always been my dream to play for the New York Yankees, but as I get older I realize that it would be great to play on any MLB team, even the Red Sox.

    Well the first circle asks where am I right now. My answer is that I play on two organized teams. One of those teams is invitation only. On the invite only team, I'm in the middle of the pack, but on the open team league I am one the best players in that league. I play a bunch of positions, but I like two of them a lot. They are first base and catcher. I've just started catching, but I have quickly got the hang of it and a lot of coaches have asked me to play for them. As much as they might convince me, I can't play for them because my dad is one of the coaches.

    The second circle asks where I want to be. I think you could tell by now that I want to be a professional baseball player. Like the last circle said, it will require lots and lots of work. I play baseball nine months a year, so I think I'm doing a lot of work. A day in a baseball player's life changes most of the time. They only have two or three months off, so they go home and see their family. During the ten months they play, they do have off days. On those days they practice or sit back and relax. Pitchers usally throw on off days to keep their arms in shape and loose. I hope this is the kind of lifestyle I have. If you don't agree, then comment and I will hear your point. Just remember to watch some baseball games in the future because I'll be playing.

    

    

Basketball Look Back and Awards

    This year, I played on a basketball team that improved. I play for a church near where I live. There are 11 team members and they all go to my school, but one of them is a year younger then us. Last year are team was in the C division. We went 9 and 3 in season play. This year we moved up to the B division. We went 6 and 6. Some of you may think that we did bad. We actually did much better then expected.

    Our team got a new player this year. He is now the best player on our team. He also plays for the boys and girls club in our town. They are a very good team. Unfortunately, he is short, just like the rest of us. Including me, we have three guys taller then average. That still doesn't cut it. Out of the six teams we beat, only two of them had a player taller then our tallest. All six of the teams we last two had players taller then our tallest.

    Our team does not give out individisual awards, but I think I know who would have won. Starting with the Most Valuable Player, otherwise known as M.V.P. In my mind the award goes to our new player Joe W. Next is the Most Improved. This award can go to a lot of people, so I'll give you the top three. They are Danny V, Frankie B, and me. Then we have Defensive Player of the Year. Another tough choice, but the awards goes to Jake and the other Jake. The best shooter award would go to more then half the team.
