What did i do this weekend?

Friday: Friday at lunch me and my friend Hannah decided that we wanted to hang out after scool. she was suposed to go shoe shopping, and she wanted someone to go with, so thats where I come in. After school, she had softball, and I wanted to help decorate Coleen's locker with some other people. Kind of in the middle of ninth period, Icalled my mom and asked her if I could go shopping with Hannah, and hang out and stuff,and clearly she said yes, or what would this be about? okay. so anyway, when we were done with colleen's locker, which looked VERY nice, I went out to the softball field and waited for Hannah to be done with her softball..........madddy fainted....

Tests Ergh Me

Dear Principal,

Hello my name is Colleen. I am going to tell you about something that really erghs me. Oh yeah I made up the word ergh. It just means basically when you say that, that you are annoyed. Anyways, I don't understand the point of tests. I think some teachers might think that tests facilitate learning. For me it is just another way to prove that teachers don't like students.  I think students should be entitled to not take tests. I think there are many more productive teaching strategies. The worst is when teachers give surprise tests, which are also known as pop quizzes. It just creates a huge bedlam. Tests are just an infraction to students. 

Also if you do badly on a test, parents just flip out! I mean it could be the teacher's fault. What if the teacher wasn't teaching the material or made it really complicated? The students should have to suffer for that? Most parents, when they hear that their child didn't do well on a test they get mad and ground you or take a privilege away for a certain amount of time. That is so mean!

I think one of the worst parts is that you can really understand a topic.  Me, personally being a student, I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS, and it definitely applies to me. Say for instance I have a Social Studies test, and I always pay attention in class and do my homework. I know everything I need to know too. Then I come into school one day and have to take a test. I could just totally freeze from all of the pressure. I tend to misconstrue all of the questions. I know everything but the pressure and idea of a test just makes me so nervous. This has personally happened to me, and it is TERRIBLE! As you can see I have an animosity towards tests. Well thank you for reading my complaint letter, and PLEASE do something about tests!

Gym: What I Think

Gym: What I   Think

In my opinion, gym is stupid. End of story. Not really actually. I should probably explain. Yes, that would be better.

Every other day, we have gym. Sometimes we have gym twice a week, and other times we have gym three times a week. When you think about it, that's a lot of gym... Why is gym more important that art or chorus/band/music? Hmmm... I do know that there are some children at our school who are overweight, and is gym really going to help them? I don't think so. It takes a lot, I think to go from fat to skinny, or somewhat normal.

    It takes a while for everyone to come out of the locker room in the first place and then we just sit around for around five minutes after that anyway sometimes. Other times there are things that you can do before the main thing that we're doing on that particular day, like volley ball which we're doing now, or on a regular day, basketball or jump rope, or whatever. Usually, I talk to people. Sometimes, we don't even really do anything. On those days, I feel like putting on the ridiculous gym uniform had absolutely no point whatsoever. Anyway, that's a pretty counterproductive way of spending the gym period. Wouldn't you think so? 

    About this gym uniform... Point? I mean, what's the concept of having a gym uniform? Why do we have to wear it? I think that any pair of sweat pants would be fine. Right? (And why only gray?) I mean, I am aware that the floors of the gym are disgustingly dirty, but it's okay, I can deal with getting my sweat pants a little bit dirty. It's really fine. Really. It's okay. I can change after gym.

    Maybe I misconstrued this whole purpose of gym thing, and it's points, but I do have my reasons for thinking gym is not really that vital, and anyway... we are all entitled to our own opinions...

   Dear teachers,

       i think we should be able to chew gum in class. I have many concepts of why we should be allowed to. One of my ideas is that it may facilitate test and or quiz's.In one of my classes in third grade me teacher would give us smarties. She thought they would make us smarter...hahahaha. This didn't only make me smarter it sort of made me concentrate more because then i wouldn't get hungry and then i wouldn't start day dreaming off about my lunch. And of course eating is very Vital, you just cant live without it. think that chewing gum in class makes me more vigilant because i wouldn't get hungry.

       if you guys let us chew gum in class you would get entitled for being the BEST TEACHERS  EVER! I hope you like my strategies and don't counterproductive them. I hope you think about these ideas!

Dear Ms. Hill.....

Dear Ms. Hill,

Your class is one of the classes that I look forward to going to every-day; However I feel a slight bit of animosity due to the fact that our routine does not change often.I suggest you change your strategies or have a new concept for the daily routine.  I think our class is entitled to have a debate on whether we should switch things up or not. Other fellow class-mates may have a different opinion about this, but if it changed the beneficiaries of your class being my favorite are very high. I hope my idea isn't misconstrued because you are a great teacher, who definitely entices the students. The change of things might cause bedlam because people aren't used to in, but in time I'm sure we will all become accustomed to our new regimen. Ms. Hill, if you want my advice, don't change up your agenda for the days entirely. You could maybe keep some of the same things and then just for a few days in a row make it different. Your a smart teacher and you know what's best for your students. The change may help us get used to other teaching techniques you have. Enough about your routine, time for the next subject. I think my feelings are passive towards this subject. Your choice of books for us to read aren't the best in my opinion, but then some are AMAZING! Like Nothing but the Truth, that was one of the best books I've EVER read. A book you chose for us to read, but was hard for me to concentrate on was Hatchet. It wasn't a bad book, but the chapters were extremely long and that made it hard for me. Maybe you could try to pick more recent books to teach. All in all the book part isn't that bad at all. For the rest of your teaching skills, your one of the FUNNIEST, NICEST, SMARTEST, BESTEST teachers for language arts I've ever had and THANK YOU.

Where do you Want to be?

   In Jessica Hagy's graphic i think she means that when you are a kid or a grown up and you think about what you want to do when you get older you realize that there is a lot of work before you get where you want to be. To get where you want to be you might need to stay in school and get good grades like for example if you wanted to be a lawyer  you need to go to law school to get a degree and study law. Before you become a lawyer you need to do A LOT of work! That's what i think Jessica Hagy's graphic means. 

  

 Right now i want my future job to be a Doctor. I want to be a doctor because cause as a kid everyone DREADS going to the Doctor. If i am a doctor i want people to want to come and i want to make it fun for them so they are not scared. Becoming a doctor requires more training then most other jobs. It is not easy to get into medical school you need to study biology, chemistry. physics, math, and English. When you Become a doctor you should want to help people and know that you need to study A LOT!

   Another job i have always fantasized about doing is being a race car driver. I have no idea why i want to be one it just looks to interesting, fun and cool! To become a race car driver you need to read and educate yourself about everything that has to do with racing. Then you should go to a race track and talk to the racers. After you get well educated you can start practicing on race tracks!

Hmm...What Career Do I Want?

    To me, Jessica Hagy's graphic means that to get from where you are to where you want to be that you need to do a whole lot of work! You can't just wake up one morning and say "Hm I think I'll become a doctor tomorrow." You need to go to college, practice, and start from the bottom of the "work food chain", to the top. For me, I don't want to be the typical doctor or lawyer. Ever since I was really young I always had an interest in fashion and I just love everything about it. My favorite things to do when I was younger was dressing up my Barbies, and dressing up with all of my dress up.

    I used to just want to be a fashion designer, but now I don't really want to. I would like to work in a fashion magazine or maybe a fashion consultant. I just love the whole idea of picking what other people get to wear or organizing photo shoots and maybe even taking the photos! To be that I know it will take a lot of hard work. I would have to read every fashion magazine ever invented, start taking art lessons, have a style of my own, go to maybe parsons school of design or something like it, and know what fashion is IN and what fashion is OUT. Also when I am in college or freshly out of college I would like to have an intership for Teen Vogue, and help out with the fashion shoots and schedule big Hollywood parties!

    Once you are actually at the job, I know it won't be all fun. It is a really stressful job and you get critiqued very harshly sometimes, but I am up to that risk to be what I have always wanted to be. When you are there you have to basically be running around a lot. You have to schedule things, go to meetings, plan big parties, and choose what people wear. You have to meet with designers, and stylists. Right now I can read all of the fashion magazines and watch all of the fashion shows. As you can see, I would really like to become something in the fashion industry and I will work as hard as I need to, to get there!

When I Grow Up, I Wanna Be Famous.....

    In Ms. Hill's 6th period class we looked at a graphic by Jessica Hagy. My interpretation of her picture is that before you go after the career you would like to have, you need to figure out where you are now. In the middle of both those things are the actions you need to take to get where you want to be in the future.

    When I grow up I think I want to be a director or producer. I got this idea from my Dad. He is a director for BET, MTV, and The Maury Povich Show. I have watched what he does during a live T.V. show and I think I would be good at. I like to be in control of things and I can see by my Dad's job that he is very in control.

    To become a Director you should go to a college that is pointing you in the direction towards directing. Your major should be communication. My Aunt Jamie's major was communication and she is a sports reporter now. You need to know a lot about the film industry and should have many open doors. Most people need to take courses on directing and film. For example; If you wanted to go to a college in New York and your choices were Columbia or NYU, you should pick NYU because Columbia would be if you were script writing. NYU would be for directing, producing,etc. Most people would become interns and learn the ropes. Then you would probably be an assistant and next the big shot. I have some connections because of my dad, so i probably wouldn't have to go through everything.

Those are some things you need to do to become a director. I hope that my dad can help me pursue my dream job.

My interpretation of the Jessica Hagy graphic would be that she is trying to explain that there will be work involved with getting from where you are now in life, to where you want to be in the future.You have to figure out what your going to do to meet these goals, and how you're going to get there think that the best job ever would be a T.V. journalist, or talk show host. In particular, I'd cover celebrity gossip. You know those shows like The Insider with Lara Spencer, ET, Access Hollywood, and so on. Well have you ever thought about what the host's life was like? Just think about it. You meet famous people all the time, you get to  go to BIG events like even red carpet events, and cover and share all the latest gossip/news: Celeb. or not celeb. stuff. To me, this wouldn't even be like working! On top of all that, you get a stylist who helps you pick out an outfit for each event or just for your daily show. The outfits are free! (lol)Someone does your make-up and hair also, so you'll always look amazing! On top of all that, you get paid up to about 77,440!

    To reach this goal, I'd have to attend a college that specializes in this category of career. Then I would find an internship somewhere and really try to learn from that, so eventually I'd be able to actually have work in this career, and apply for a job. This would include interviews that I'd have to be prepared for as well. I'd eventually work my way up from assistant and be able to try out for the spot of being the reporter. With the training that I'd have gone through, I hope that it would pay off, and I'd get this amazing job (=]).

    During my usual day, I's show up at a schedules time and my stylist and I would pick out my outfit for the show. My hair and makeup would then be done as well, and then I'd probably have to discuss the topics and go over the content with the producer or director. I'd comment on various topics and occasionally, I'd have a guest on the show, and I'd either interview them or discuss the topics with them, and soon enough, the show would be over.

I think this would be an amazing job for me, because I would really enjoy it, which is really important. Who wants a job that they don't even enjoy? Right? Yup.

Whoever Said "Everybody Is Irish On St. Patricks Day", WAS LYING!

    On tuesday, March 17 was St. Patricks Day! I am 75% Irish, and proud of it! I just love being Irish and it is amazing. I am basically the typical Irish girl, dark blonde, curly hair. Also my name is Colleen, which means "little Irish girl." I am from a really big family and it is just so fun. Also in the Spring/ Summer of 2010 I am going to go to Ireland for the first time. My sister, Lindsay goes to Trinity College in Dublin and my whole family is flying over for her graduation. Well anyways enough about me.

I think my favorite St. Patricks Day so far was two years ago. My whole family saw the parade together and had a massive dinner. What made it really special was that my sister that lives in Ireland came and surprised us. We hadn't at the time seen her for a few months and it was her first year away so it was really exciting. My brother even dyed his hair green, and I put green streaks in my hair.

This years St. Patricks Day was especially special because it was my niece's first! She is almost one years old so it was her first St. Patricks Day. My sister and my niece came over the night before St. Patricks day to celebrate with us because she wanted my niece to spend her first St. Patricks Day with the Irish family! In the morning of St. Patty's day I got to sleep in because I skipped school...I mean I was sick *cough cough*. We had breakfast and then went into the city for the parade. Blah blah blah yeah I saw the parade and walked around the city. Then I came back home.

Yay time for my personal favorite part. THE MEAL! My family and I sat down to a wonderful meal of corn-beef, cabbage, Irish soda bread, potatoes, and hm I forget what else. Well anyways time for dessert. For dessert we had our traditional pears over vanilla ice cream while we watched our all time favorite family movie, Waking Ned Divine. Oh boy that movie is just so funny. Every St. Patricks Day our family sits down to watch the movie while eating our dessert. Its about these Irish people who pretend to be this dead man because he won a lot of money from a lottery. Well I was never good at explaining things, but there's my best. That is about it for my St. Patricks day so I am gonna go now. Well talk to you later!
